"Working with Leslie is an enlightening and nurturing experience. She has a naturally calming way and the type of therapy she does is healing without being invasive."
Therapist, Charlotte NC
"Leslie brings such a warmth and deep spiritual presence to her work. I feel supported and encouraged by her ~ with Leslie I have found a safe place to explore the depth and breadth of my life. She gently invites me to connect with this moment, with my actual body experience, and with my present experience ~ it's not an abstract, intellectualization of my issues. I am supported in a very real, present, energetic, and deeply spiritual connection with my self ~ both my humanity and my spirituality."
Minister - Asheville, NC
"I've been a Christian for over 25 years and although I've known that peace comes from practicing the presence of Christ, Leslie is helping me make this a reality moment by moment. Through her gift of insight and gentle suggestions, she is helping me become increasingly mindful of God's presence -- not only in my spirit and soul (mind, will, emotions), but in my body as well.
God longs for us to integrate all three, just as He created us. In guiding me to do this, Leslie is helping me avoid the anxiety to which I am susceptible. She urges me to listen to my body, relax, and allow the Holy Spirit to show me the "hook" of a past hurt, to stay in the present and allow Healing Grace, while trusting God with the future."
Client - Charlotte, NC
In her counseling practice, Leslie combines her clinical expertise and training in integrating spirituality and psychology, with a variety of psychotherapeutic skills and methods. The goals of therapy are realized when an individual takes on being the active agent of his or her own healing process or journey. Leslie does not study the client to give answers or interpretations to perceived "problems". Rather, she assists the client in learning how to study themselves while noticing without judgment what may have become simply a habitual pattern or behaving that no longer serves the client well in their lives and relationships.
As a "Mindfulness-Based" psychotherapist, Leslie has adapted the Christian tradition of "Centering Prayer" into her practice of working with people. Centering prayer, which can lead to contemplative prayer is simply a wordless, trusting opening of self to the divine experienced in a session by gentle encouragement from the therapist to simply stay with whatever is happening in the moment. Slowing down and paying attention with acceptance (mindfulness) to the "noise" or pain present, allows and invites further deepening and gradual entering into what Jesus refers to as "the inner room" in Matthew 6:6. As we become more comfortable and practiced in entering this state of mind, the presence of God is experienced and it can become safe to finally let go and allow peace to enter our lives in the midst of suffering.
Leslie has training and knowledge of clinical diagnosis and is able to determine what might be needed clinically in terms of her own treatment strategy and possible referral. She is skilled in evaluating the need for further psychiatric or psychological evaluations. Leslie is also a Certified Hakomi therapist.
